We are NOT experiencing technical difficulties

"Hey Dad, can you help me? I got lost."

"What do you mean lost?"

"I got lost from the Bionicle video you found me. Can you help me get it again?"

"Oh, yeah sure..."

I walk over to the computer, expecting that he'd simply clicked an ad, or lost the browser. Nope. Never underestimate a kid who was using a mouse long before he knew what a crayon was.

So proud but I guess it's time to put in parental controls on that computer.
-----
[d Hubby] Our boy can now search for illicit content on the web all by himself! *sniff* he's all grown up!

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterd Mother

My boys have come up with "interesting" search terms for ordinary things. Thankfully, we haven't stumbled upon full out porn, but I imagine that clock is ticking. However,I'm one of those annoying moms that hover while the kids are on the computer. I can strike down some T & A in one fell swoop, should the need arise.
-----
[BusyDad] Don't mess with Sonia. Ruling with an Iron Mouse.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSonia

Kids today are born with a web surfing gene that is not inherited from their parents.
-----
[BusyDad] It must be something they add into the milk we buy, along with vitamin D.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTootsie Farklepants

d mom is smart. it's the first thing I though. Parental Controls!
-----
[BusyDad] She's pretty sharp. I know we a little time though. He won't find much by typing "bubees."

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPG

Just a few messed up letters and he could've typed bionic e-coli. And, on YouTube, who knows what may have shown up.
-----
[BusyDad] haha! I don’t know, but I bet you it would have been pretty cool! Maybe cooler than Bionicles even.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMomo Fali

WOW! I am extremely impressed. My kindergartener had to ask me how to spell "had" this morning. I bet my kid can beat up your kid, though! Just kidding. Makes me realize I need to do a better job at sitting on the 'puter with the boys. Am I bad for hating it? I would rather wrestle and I HATE WRESTLING!
KEEP BELIEVING
-----
[BusyDad] Remember, my kid is trained in the ways of the Force. Wrestling is fun! Not as fun as a good lightsaber duel, but still fun.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAngie

Oh my 6 year old is way more computer smart than me. Makes me feel like a complete idiot!
-----
[BusyDad] It's just a generation thing. Give your kid a tape recorder. Then see who's smarter! Boo ya!

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered Commenteramy

ooh, it's a good thing he wasn't looking for something a little more suspect. um, like, well, i can't think of anything. i'm the reason parental controls were invented - the thought of my kid one day accidentally stumbling on something just doesn't compute.
-----
[BusyDad] Who, MY kid? Noooo. He's an angel. He's nothing like me! Ahem...

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterzoeyjane

OK I am a slacker reader this last 2 weeks, so I am just checking in to see how Fury was doing:) Oh and quit whining about the weather there please today it is a balmy 56 below here got to love SD:)
-----
[BusyDad] Let's see, yes, we did bitch about the cold, then we ignored the beautiful sandbox and then figured out how to query a website. I really don't accomplish much for all the running around that I seem to be doing...

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

That is SO cool! Too funny! Brilliant boy on the way... I can see why he keeps you so busy.
-----
[BusyDad] :) Well, let's put it this way. If he can't grasp how to spell, at least I know he'll be able to figure it out on Google.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJen in MI

I really love phonetic searches! :) Although it won't be much longer before someone figures out how to link porn to things that SOUND close. *sigh*

We have to be careful with the internet searches for school work.... you'd be surprised what googling "monkeys" comes up with....

Now I ask you.... how on earth do yo explain what "hot monkey sex" is to a 2nd grader???
-----
[BusyDad] Ohhh... kinda scary. Maybe say it was a typo for Monkey Hot Sax, the horn playing primate sensation of St. Louis?

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSports Mama

Dude... be happy you do not have a girl.

I can not save my express checkout on ANY online store. The other day my three year old almost bought herself a pair of purple size 14 pants. I guess I should stop shoppping online. Infront of her that is.
-----
[BusyDad] Funny!!! Well, look on the bright side. If she had ordered the huge purple pants, it would have made an excellent blog post!

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommentermommyOH!!!

I see you have a future spammer on your hands. He is already learning to use the "zero" instead of an "o" to bypass the spam filters.
-----
[BusyDad] hahaha! Astute observation. At least he'd make me a ton of money before being hauled off to comfy white-collar jail.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarried Leos

OK Sorry I ignored the sand box it is lovely can you come build one for my 3?
-----
[BusyDad] You and my son both! Hmmm I wouldn't do well in -56 degrees. Hell, I don't do well in +56 degrees!

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMelissa

Smarty pants! Hey, did you guys keep Baby Einstein on continuous play or something?
-----
[BusyDad] Nah... just proper motivation. He grew up on Lego.com.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHuckdoll

That pretty much says it all doesn't it? Anytime I have a question about my cell phone or something, I usually just ask my kids 'cuz they either know the answer or can figure it out faster than I can look it up! LOL!
-----
[BusyDad] It's their world. We just feed them...

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterStacey

hey Busy Dad-are you recovered from your weekend?
Is your son into Ben 10? I was doing searches for my 5 year old for
"stink fly" "wild vine" "gray matter" and "upchuck".
this afernoon. I think we need to get outside more!
-----
[BusyDad] I've got a nice sandbox you can play in... Fury loves Ben 10. In fact I have a Ben 10 post in the works. You'll get a kick out of it. And yeah, plenty recovered and recharged for the next blog hopping event!

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterLizzie

Well he did take computer classes at his preschool when he was 3. He was surfing the web way before he could read. He just knew what certain words like SUBMIT or LOGIN looked like and that's how he maneuvered around the web - which brought upon the creation of Fury's portal.
----
[d Hubby] I think he didn't learn that much at his preschool class - way too basic for him. It was hours of surfing noggin.com and cartoonnetwork.com and starwars.com with me that made him such an expert. And yes, he recognized what words like "start" "quit" "cancel" "play again" etc. looked like before he even knew the concept of letters. OH! Thanks for reminding me. I should just publish that portal for other kids to use!!

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterd Wife

Computer classes may have been basic but they were the foundation to Fury being computer savvy - that's what got him started.

Don't argue with me! ;)
-----
[d Hubby] ...

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterd Wife

You blog is getting to be one of my favs! You keep reminding me of the wonderful things my kids USE to do. I still have a letter to santa my youngest wrote. Isn't it funny how only parents can decifer some things.

Thanks for the memories.
-----
[BusyDad] Wow, Thanks! Makes me happy to hear (read) that! You should scan and post that letter. I'm sure people would get a kick out of it.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMdx3mom

Now there's a kid that's hooked on phonics!!
-----
[BusyDad] HA - true. It DOES say Bionicle if you read it (and pretend the zero is an O). Gotta give him credit for trying and getting it partly right.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren C.

I hope you don't mind, but I added your link on my website. I just found your link today or yesterday - I lose track of days and events! I think you're hilarious - I really need to try some of your techniques on my hyper little girl :)
-----
[BusyDad] Thanks, and just so you know, I never mind when folks do something nice. But hey, that's just me! My techniques are a little extreme. I may need you to sign a waiver first.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterBavani

I'm really impressed by his literacy comprention. Very smart boy you got there :)
-----
[BusyDad] He may not know how to spell yet, but for all intents and purposes, I'd say he's literate enough for this day and age.

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMarieWalt

So cute and impressive! Aw, but for a second that gave me a flashback heart attack - the headings on my records back in school was "BIOL - ECOL ###" (uh, and not so pretty numbers and letters after that)
Fury's a little smartie :) But yeah, downside to literacy? Time to start watching out before scarier things show up on that screen.
-----
[d Bro] Yeah, like the Go Vegetarian website! (stop influencing him!)

January 29, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterauntie mei

thank God thats all he found! my son has also been playing games online (pbs kids & what-not) so I am sure he will do something like this eventually! yikes!
-----
[BusyDad] Luckily YouTube prohibits anything too explicit. But yeah, that google search bar right above you tube - that's the wide open sea. Just for fun I did a google search on BION EC0L and it just pulls up something in Chinese and some technical stuff from a WiFi forum.

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJenny from Mommin' It Up!

*Ugh* I gotta find a new profession. If Fury is that good now, when he gets to be a middle schooler, I can't imagine what tech-skills the kid might have! My students already know way too much! *grin*

Good for Fury!

Keep on rockin' (and stayin' warm...I'm feelin' your pain here in Vegas!)

His2Dads
-----
[BusyDad] heh - I just know one day he'll put up a blog and optimize it so it outshines me in Google's search results. Finally - another weather wuss who feels my pain!

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMrJourneyman

My four year old was playing Backyardigans on Nick Jr. while I was showering and came in to tell me not to worry that he clicked the wrong button but found an even better game. I almost broke my back as I slipped naked and wet on the hardwood floor running to the computer to see what inappropriate thing he had managed to find.
-----
[BusyDad] You left out the best part - what did he find??

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

My 3 1/2 yo can type better than she can write. Is that a good thing?
-----
[BusyDad] When was the last time you "wrote" a proposal or report or correspondence? Your daughter is coming along juuuust fine!

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterA Whole Lot of Nothing

OMG! I totally saw BIO ECOLI when I first looked! ROFL!! uh...good luck with that B.D. Don't let him get click happy with that mouse....even I've inadvertently clicked on XXX clips on youTube (by accident, really).
-----
[BusyDad] Sandy, you just spiked my traffic because "XXX clips" is now on my blog haha! I did a post entitled XXX Meme a while back and I got all sorts of undesirables flocking to my site. I apologize in advance to all you porn seekers out there. There is nothing to see here. Move along.

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSandy (Momisodes)

Soon, grasshopper will be the teacher. At least he didn't delete your blog!
-----
[BusyDad] Oh - he knows better than that. This is his connection with his public. He often comments about how he loves it that he's "so famous now!" To him, as long as he's on a website, it's the same whether it's little ol BDB or MSN.

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNola

"The Boy" just gets his PEOPLE right on it..That would be me.
-----
[BusyDad] Hey! I'm "his people" too. We have the same profession!

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy

I love it. Kids are so smart. Mine does better on a video game or computer game than most other things in his life. Lucky for us, the schools are incorporating that talent into learning programs.
-----
[BusyDad] Hey, they've got actual video game leagues these days. He could parlay that skill into some real money! But spelling? bah - that's what spellcheck is for! Glad to know that schools have started to recognize.

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMiss

It's scary how computer savvy kids are these days. Fury is awesome with his phonetics though, are you sure he's only 5?
Little G's been a pro with the mouse since she turned 2; shows you how addicted her mom is to blogging, the computer is on 24/7.
-----
[BusyDad] Oh, the computer has been a way of life for Fury since he was just a few months old. I'd sit there with him in front of the Sesame St. website and click for him while he watched intently and drooled. And about the spelling - it's all about motivation. He knows that the quicker he can spell, the more toys he can bookmark for my "to buy" list.

January 30, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren MEG (Pomtini)

*Rushes to find tutors for my girls*
-----
[BusyDad] I bet you your girls can Google some for you.

January 31, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMaria

Gosh this is too cute! My sister (who is 10 years old) wrote her first blog entry a month ago. Afterwhich she was worried about her privacy. Gosh she's just 10! lol.
-----
[BusyDad] Might as well teach her how to generate a creative commons license while you're at it. She'll be asking about that soon too!

February 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAmelia

SWEETNESS! My son is computer savvy too...and it's amazing how young they start. I think thats why we have so many smart smart kids in this new generation. Blog Hoppin' at ya!! ;)
-----
[BusyDad] Well... least hacking into worldbank in the boys room is easier on their lungs. Getting a jump on the hopping early! Lucky you!

February 1, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterwornoutwoman

Wow. It blows my mind. My two year old can use a mouse and we rarely even let him on the computer. They just pick up on things so quickly.

Happy Blog Hopping,
-----
[BuzzeeDad] Isn't it amazing? I don't remember ever teaching Fury about anything computer related. He just ... knew. Scary. I still think it's something they put in the milk.

February 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAnastasia Beaverhousin

He's a clever little fellow huh?

I found out my daughter was using my e-bay account to bid on Webkinz. What a disaster that could have been! Time to change ALL my passwords!

Blog Hoppin' --- The Pink Mojito
-----
[BuzzeeDad] Ha - that's crazy. Webkinz is like kid crack. And for that reason, I'm resisting all attempts by Fury to break me down. But he's good. He'll find a way. And rest assured I will blog about it! Happy hoppin!

February 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJill

Oh NO! hahahaha I love it! At least he got the phonetics right. :)
-----
[BusyDad] If you're gonna misspell it, that's gotta be the coolest way to do it.

February 3, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterStephen

OMG - this one seriously gave me the tickles. It's SO cute how they spell everything EXACTLY how it sounds. Loooove it!
-----
[BusyDad] Well, even if he can't get the letters, at least I know that he's got the right idea. That's good enough for now!

March 1, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterdette

Cute! Reminds me of our little one. He's been mousing just as long.
-----
[BusyDad] Incredible how they take to it like it ain't no thing isn't it? It amazes me.
