Fun With Speling Tessts

His “never tap out” attitude may benefit him more in the long run than spelling “Address” anyway...

In some states, the judges would probably just give him this one...

Git is a proper spelling in the south :-)
-----
[BusyDad] Can't say my kid isn't multi-culturally aware ;)

February 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHiTechDad

HiTechDad is correct. And that is sickeningly cute.
-----
[BusyDad] The damn Pasadena elite! hahaha

February 25, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMs. Cellaneous

Git is one of my favourite words. Not of the Southern genus, but of the Monty Python.
-----
[BusyDad] And Monty Python is not only a genus, it is genius.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterzoeyjane

Yup, I think he should just tell the teacher it's the Monty Python spelling.
-----
[BusyDad] If he knew that, I wouldn't put it past him to actually do that!

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJen in MI

Looks like he 'got 'er done'! :)
-----
[BusyDad] hahaha!!! Yes, and that is how they would say it in private school.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterStephen

Git! *snort*

FYI: I redid the Dude version of the Chinese zodiac for today's post and I'm sorry to say your Great White Shark offering did not make the final cut.
-----
[BusyDad] I'm happy that my Great White Shark nomination was beaten by a worthy opponent, the Kraken. They are bigger, badder and a lot more mythological.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSonia

So funny.. first thing that came to mind was Monty Python (as I see it did for many other commenters..)

And I love his dedication to the word address.. so freaking cute..
-----
[BusyDad] I'm a huge python fan and I am surprised I did not think of that! I used to tape them off PBS in the 80s and I even cataloged the sketches on note cards for quick indexing (yes, total nerd!). I still have those tapes at my mom's house. The address thing had me cracking up for a good 5 minutes when he brought it home :)

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Sounds like you've been playing a little too much Waylon Jennings for him.
-----
[BusyDad] Wahahaha! Poor boy...I really think he is the only 5 year old Asian kid in this entire planet who knows the lyrics to Lukenbach Texas.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMomo Fali

So the teacher puts a check mark on the WRONG answers? I am so confused!!!
-----
[BusyDad] I guess the teacher was givin him "props" for effort - I'm down with that! :)

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNola

Hey there....have missed your blog lately but am back intermittently. I think that stuff is really overrated anyway, but I like how the teacher gave him a smiley face and said "He tried". Very important.
-----
[BusyDad] It was definitely a show of effort! Nice to see you back. Yikes, I need to get over your way as well! So many blogs so little time!!

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSWC

Not bad! What grade is he in again?
-----
[BusyDad] Attitude is everything! He's in Kindergarten.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMiss

Yeah.... if ya'll was in the souff he wooda got 'git'...
-----
[BusyDad] haha! And the fishing's better. I'm leanin in that direction.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTara R.

Git, get. Are we sure he actually meant to write 'get"? Just how much does he like his spelling teacher? lol
-----
[BusyDad] I wouldn't put it past him. Seriously, he is an independent thinker like you wouldn't believe.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterCableGirl

Aww, I can't spell either.
I did like how she(he) said "he tried" that was sweet.
-----
[BusyDad] I still have trouble with Address. When I wrote it for this post, I had to think twice. That would have been funny if I messed it up.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSister Sassy

Never mind the south, like Obama he must have some Irish blood.... 'Git' is a perfectly legitimate word for someone you may hold ess than the utmost respect for....
-----
[BusyDad] hahaha I'm so over it. I think discovering St. Patty's day celebrations made me realize we have more in common than different. Had I only been a beer drinker in 5th grade, life would have been different.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterXbox4NappyRash

Oh my, is that cute or what? I love git, and I love his persistence with address. The teacher's note was like saying "A for effort, little dude!" Very sweet.
-----
[BusyDad] If the paper were bigger, he just may have gotten it eventually!

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterNatalie

That is just adorable. And address, that's a pretty tough word, isn't Fury only 5?
-----
[BusyDad] yup - he's 5. No wait. He hates that. He is 5 AND A HALF.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren MEG (Pomtini)

Since when is the word "address" in the same spelling list as words like "bag," "top," and "on?" I think that teacher got her lists confused.
-----
[BusyDad] I know - random isn’t it? I think it may have been a twisted social experiment.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Awwww....the kid who never quits!! He should get credit for that! It will definitely take him further than spelling "address"!!!
-----
[BusyDad] He definitely doesn't quit. Great for schoolwork. Tedious if you are his chief Lego engineer.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKaren C.

Whut? Addsse is a pritty hard wurd four fighve. I don't git it...

Kidding...that was so sweet!!
-----
[BusyDad] jajaja krakin me up huckdawl!

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHuckdoll

Looks pert-neer close nuf fer me!
-----
[BusyDad] mmmhmmm that's what spell check is fer anyways.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJason

I love 'git' instead of get. Great post!
-----
[BusyDad] heh thanks! I may just start saying it that way to validate his efforts ;)

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterwornoutwoman

Awww! Look @ all his effort! That is so friggin' cute!!
-----
[BusyDad] They probably don't give you much time either. I could see him getting frantic and just writing it as fast as he could, hoping to hit the jackpot.

February 26, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMaria [Immoral Matriarch]

Was it one of the tests where the teacher calls out the words? If so maybe you should "git" her to say the word for you.Fury probly jus writ whut he heered..Y'all know whut I mean?..;P
-----
[BusyDad] I swear y'all come up with the best theories because Fury can do no wrong! Love it! hahaha

February 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPeggy

I got a note home today from my youngest son's teacher saying that he used the wrong sheet for his multi-step report. I'm the one who gave him the wrong sheet. How much of an ass do I feel like?
-----
[BusyDad] Probably about the same degree that I'll feel it when I do the same thing in the not-too-distant future!

February 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTootsie Farklepants

Do we all remember Jackson's infamous practice spelling test, in which he got every word correct, and then titled the paper "Pracktice Spelling Test" - Heh, the one word he didn't study.

Fury rules! The End.
-----
[BusyDad] HAHA!! Now there's a classic spelling test anecdote. Fury feels the love!

February 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterPiper of Love

LOL! Well, my English husband calls people a "git" when they're being "an idiot" -- perhaps he was expressing his attitude toward his teacher?
-----
[BusyDad] Funny! Well that explains the hilarity of the famous Monty Python sketch. I always thought it was funny, but had no idea Git actually meant something. Dumb ol me.

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered Commentermimi/pz5wjj

Git instead of get is brilliant!
-----
[BusyDad] He's too cool for school :)

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterRosie

That is so cute! I'd say the "git" came from all the Country songs ;)
-----
[BusyDad] haha yeah - if he watched more MTV instead of CMT, he'd have spelled it Gat.

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSandy (Momisodes)

Dang, that's sweet. Love that tenacity.
-----
[BusyDad] Never say die. That's my boy! But of course that also means "never say wait till tomorrow to build that Lego thing."

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterpinky

Aww...I like that the teaacher noted his effort, too.

More John Mayer!! Less Waylon.

Hey, I could've guessed you were a Python fan. We love it (yes, the kids have seen a little bit of it - is that horrible?).... You should see my little guy imitating the monks with the tablets: chant, chant, chant, hum, chat and BONK!
-----
[BusyDad] Less Waylon does not compute. He is too badass to ignore. And the Python guys? The most badass comedy troupe ever assembled. I can't believe your son does the monks! Please get that on video!

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered Commentersoapb

By "in some states" do you mean "if he was part of the current White House administration"?
-----
[BusyDad] :D Deb you totally crack me up. Always!

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDeb (Missives From Suburbia)

They should always get an "a" for effort. I agree that GIT would work in several parts of the country!!

Hoppin~
Anastasia Beaverhousin
-----
[BusyDad] I agree. Effort is definitely worth more than performance. Until you git a job.

That is just too cute. I can't wait for my little boy to start learning to read and write. Such an exciting time.

www.discussionpub.com
-----
[BusyDad] And it can yield some funny moments too!

March 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterZoe

Aw, how sweet! :-)

Happy Saturday! Blog Hoppin'! :-)
"Margarita Mom"
-----
[BusyDad] When applied anywhere but the toy aisle at Target, a child's persistence is darn cute isn't it?

March 1, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterStacey

Git is a word. His spelling teacher apparently from Alabama! See, down here you can spell words "funeticly" and they will still be marked correctly
-----
[BusyDad] I guess Alabama was way ahead of the times. I bet they are all rly gd cel fone textrs.
